We have raised £1.6 million to redefine the future of small business

July 7, 2021
Today we are super excited to announce our seed funding round of £1.6 million, led by FinTech VC Anthemis.Founded in February 2019, Dan and I started Ember with a vision to make it possible for anyone to launch, operate and grow a business. As we close this funding round, we couldn't be more excited to be one step closer towards realising that goal. By bringing clarity and transparency to the tax process for small business owners, Ember democratises accounting and empowers entrepreneurship – at a time when small business is more important than ever.Led by FinTech venture investment firm Anthemis, the round is geared towards product development, recruitment and customer acquisition. Having achieved proof of concept and organic customer growth since our pre-seed round a year ago, we're now ready to bring on customers at scale and expand the progressive functionalities of the platform.Born from personal frustration with the current accountant/client relationship, which is costly, time consuming and leaves business owners feeling disempowered, Ember is designed specifically with business owners, not accountants, in mind.As the shape of our economy and workforce changes, we're making running a business simple enough for anyone to do – from incorporation to close, and everything in between.Alongside Anthemis, VC funds Innovation Nest and Spring Ventures have backed us. Ruth Foxe Blader, Partner at Anthemis, says, “Ember has the opportunity to modernise small business tax preparation and accounting. Anthemis has a history of backing companies that support SME commerce, the backbone of the global economy. Especially as the pandemic strains entrepreneurship, we’re thrilled to support this progressive team.”As we begin the next step in our journey with the support of our new investors, we can't wait to bring our transformative financial experience to more small business across the UK and help unlock their potential.
