We're now ready to support sole traders

At Ember, we're committed to helping business owners do just business.

Since starting up, we've been focused on making our app perfect for the UK's 4 million limited companies — but the plan to open our doors to sole traders was always in the back of our minds. To truly take the tax burden off the shoulders of small businesses, we knew we needed to get Ember into the hands of the 3.2 million of sole traders out there.

On the 16th November 2021 those plans will materialise, as we'll finally be inviting sole traders to use Ember.

We've also updated our pricing structure, with two new subscription plans for sole traders and a simpler pricing structure for limited companies.

A glimpse at our new pricing

We're all about keeping things simple here at Ember, and our pricing model is no exception. As we open our doors to sole traders for the first time, we've reimagined the way we do our pricing, with each of our subscription offers designed to meet your business where it's at.

If you're new to the sole trader game, you might be interested in signing up for our free plan. We'll give you limited access to the Ember app, giving you the tools you need to manage the basics of your business. Sole traders on this plan will need to pay an annual £99 fee for Self Assessment filings, and can book one-off consultations with our accountants for £30+VAT.

For sole traders looking to make their money go further, our Pro Plan is the option for you. Not only will you get access to everything on offer in the free plan, but you'll get unlimited support from our in-house qualified accountants and free Self Assessment support, all for just £29/month.

We've also simplified our pricing plan for limited companies. Ember customers would pay £39/month for access to our app and accountants, with separate payments needing to be made for Self Assessments, end of year accounts, Corporation Tax and more. Not only does this plan make forecasting monthly costs difficult, but it also doesn't offer the level of transparency we aim to deliver.

That's why we've introduced an all-encompassing flat fee for £79/month for Ember's limited company users, covering annual financial obligations without any hidden costs (with the exception of additional Director Self Assessments for companies with more than one director, costing £99 per additional Assessment). This new price will be applied to any new accounts created from November 16th onwards, and existing users will be able to keep their current plan up until February 1st, 2023.

Payroll

Take the pain out of payday by automating your payroll filing to HMRC in just one click. We'll also automatically break your employee payroll down, allowing you to see the monthly splits between Gross Salary, PAYE, NIC and Pensions in one comprehensive dashboard.

Tax optimisation

It's not just the accounting we automate — we'll send you in-app tax saving prompts as you spend to make sure you get the most bang for your buck. We'll also automatically send you reminders for important tax deadlines so you never miss a deadline again.

Connect to your bank account

When we said you can manage your business finances from one app, we really meant it. Instead of having to jump between your banking app and Ember, simply sync Ember up to your bank account and have all your business expenses categorised in seconds.

There's no need to set up a new business bank account, either. Simply sync up your personal bank account, select the transactions that are relevant to your business, and we'll filter out the rest.

No bank account? No problem. With Ember, you can keep track of all your invoices, expenses and how much tax you owe when you input your cash inflows and outflows into the app.

Self Assessment support

With Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment due to come into effect in 2024, you'll want to make sure you and your business are prepared for more frequent tax returns.

Not only have we been MTD-ready from the start, but with Ember you can get your Self Assessment drafted, reviewed and sent directly to HMRC by one of our in-house qualified accountants.

Real-time updates

Keep a close eye on your cashflow with our dashboard and live reports updating you in-app every time you spend.

We'll also calculate your real-time tax estimation, so you always know how much tax you owe at the end of the personal tax year — meaning no nasty surprises when you submit your Self Assessment.
